The resume should not exist. That is the point.

Security Forces superintendent. Ohio Teacher of the Year. School administrator. University faculty. Author. The same person, and every school he works with gets all of him.

Chapter one

Twenty years standing watch.

Eric spent two decades in United States Air Force Security Forces, rising to superintendent and special tactics instructor. He protected assets from nuclear weapons to presidents, trained with the British SAS, and was named USAF Europe's Non-commissioned Officer of the Year in 1992. Planning for the worst day, so it never arrives, was the job.

Most people retire from that into private security consulting. Eric walked into a ninth grade World History classroom full of at-risk students instead.

Chapter two

Then the second career outdid the first.

In 2006, Ohio named Eric its Teacher of the Year, and he was honored at the White House alongside the nation's top educators, standing with the President of the United States. Four listings in Who's Who Among American Teachers followed, then a 2013 finalist nod for Ohio Assistant Principal of the Year.

The kid-tested classroom came first, though. Everything Eric teaches other educators was proven on ninth graders who did not want to be there.

The parts that make the stories good.

Eric is a scuba diver, a high ropes and rappelling instructor, and a survival instructor. He is also, above everything, a storyteller. It is why seven hundred teenagers go quiet when he takes a microphone and why a room of sheriff's deputies leans in the same way. Your staff will not check their email during his sessions. They will be too busy laughing and writing things down.
